Sellafield Limited - First SPRS Consignment
March 2011The Sellafield Product and Residue Store (SPRS) has entered its active commissioning phase six weeks ahead of schedule.
It has received its first consignment of material for storage, just a few months after construction was completed ahead of target and under budget.
Tannahill Reay are proud to have supported the SPRS project team from very early in the construction phase providing highly detailed 3D visualisation material, process simulations and interactive training & awareness material. We look forward to continuing to provide our support throughout the active commissioning phase and onwards into to routine operations.

Magnox Limited - Dungeness Nuclear Power Station Decommissioning Strategy
March/April 2011Dungeness Power Station was one of the earlier nuclear power stations built for the Central Electricity Generating Board. The station ceased generating electricity in 2006 and has since been working towards a lifetime business plan to defuel and decommission.
Magnox Limited approached Tannahill Reay to employ their creative skills in visually depicting the site, as it would appear in future years.
Three-dimensional imagery was created to support the decommissioning strategy up to the year 2098. A virtual timeline linked to the images helped explain the process in detail and was used as a visual awareness tool to be presented to the local community, stakeholders and regulators to explain the gradual decommissioning sequence over the coming years up until final site clearance.

Arcadis Vectra Limited - ITER
January 2010ITER is a large-scale scientific experiment that aims to demonstrate that it is possible to produce commercial energy from fusion. ITER is based on the 'tokamak' concept of magnetic confinement, in which the plasma is contained in a doughnut-shaped vacuum vessel. The fuel - a mixture of Deuterium and Tritium, two isotopes of Hydrogen?is heated to temperatures in excess of 150 million °C, forming hot plasma. Strong magnetic fields are used to keep the plasma away from the walls; these are produced by superconducting coils surrounding the vessel, and by an electrical current driven through the plasma.
The ITER project is situated on a total of 180 hectares of land in St-Paul-lez-Durance, a commune in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southern France that is already home to France's nuclear research centre, the CEA (Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique).
In partnership with our client Arcadis Vectra Limited, Tannahill Reay were invited to visit the ITER site and project headquarters to meet with senior project personnel, to assess and produce proposals for visual communications requirements for the project. This includes all material from standard health & safety signage to complex interactive wayfinder schemes utilising 3D modelling technology.

Tubelines - Infrastructure Improvements
February 2011Tannahill Reay's successful involvement with the ongoing improvements to the London Underground rail network continued this month with our participation in the Lillie Bridge Improvement Project located at Uxbridge, Raynors Lane and the central control room at Earl's Court. This follows on the back major control room improvement projects already successfully implemented at Earl's Court (Piccadilly Line), Cobourg Street (Northern & Victoria Lines) and Heathrow (Piccadilly Line, Terminal 5)
Our involvement again comprised of the re-design and manufacture of various control panels to represent physical modifications to track and signal layouts on the Piccadilly Line.

Magnox Limited - Bradwell Nuclear Power Station Decommissioning Strategy
January 2011Waste materials generated during Bradwell Power Stations operational phase, now requires processing.
The retrievals project proposes to remove the waste from the underground vaults and process it, in a safe and environmentally compliant manner.
Tannahill Reay where commissioned to visualise and produce animated simulations of the retrieval and chemical processes involved.
